Back from the Dead!

It has been a very long time since the fingers pecked away on the keyboard in an attempt to string together something cogent. Of course, even with the best of efforts not all readers agree with the cogent part!

Where to start? Well, suffice to say the GOP is a hot mess. Former President Trump still holds tremendous sway, and as long as he does, the party is caught betwixt and between. On one hand, millions of Hillary Clinton’s famous deplorables remain engaged, solely because they love Donald Trump. If he were to gracefully exit (as I suggested he should back in November) it is completely logical to question whether his base would stay engaged.

On the other hand, there are the millions of women and independent but Republican leaning Americans who held their noses and voted for Joe Biden for one reason; they detest Donald Trump. Ergo folks, we have ourselves a serious conundrum.

GOP leaders in the House and Senate are walking the tightrope, trying to keep the base inside the tent, and figure out how to re-attract voters lost because of the DT’s. It is a thin rope on which they walk, and it is nearly impossible to appeal to both factions at the same time. The balancing act also gives the mainstream media massive amounts of fodder, as it is not difficult to portray Republican leadership as feckless.

Adding insult to injury is that some of our very best legislators have had enough. They are tired of the partisan bickering. They long for the days when compromise was accepted as a normal part of the political process. They despair that the idea of legislative give and take is mocked and derided as weakness. There are five Republican US Senators who have announced they are not running for re-election in 2022. They are Richard Burr (North Carolina), Pat Toomey (Pennsylvania), Rob Portman (Ohio), Richard Shelby (Alabama), and Roy Blunt (Missouri). The numbers are already against the GOP in 2022, and these retirements certainly dont help. But these Senators see no light at the end of the tunnel, and they are tired of the endless partisan gridlock. Incidentally, there are no democrat incumbents who are retiring.

Meanwhile, President Biden is, for all intents and purposes, continuing his basement strategy. He pops out of his hole like Punxsutawney Phil every now and then for a photo op with his people, and then, before any questions can be asked that may require a spontaneous, unscripted reply, he is quickly deposited back in the comfortable confines down below. What we have witnessed in his fifty days as President is pretty scary. He will no doubt sign every bill the democrats put in front of him, and there is no evidence whatsoever that his guidance or leadership will be directing any part of the legislative agenda. He is a latter day “nowhere man”. (Click here to see what I mean.)

Shall we also just spend a moment on how successfully the media and democrats are at positioning Joe Biden as everyone’s nice, aging uncle? Good ole sleepy Joe Biden; a real heart of gold. Alas, every American should be required to revisit the Clarence Thomas hearings. Yes, those hearing where then Senator Biden behaved atrociously, as he tried to dismantle Justice Thomas’s entire being. The Detroit Press opined on this last year. It is worth your review. click here. The bottom line is that Joe Biden can be as mean and partisan as they come. Just ask Clarence Thomas.

Last night, the President took the first few steps in what will ultimately be a personal victory march when he declares he has won the war against Covid. Now look, I think President Trump was way too slow to acknowledge we had an epidemic on our hands. He did not lead well, and his failure to do so was a big reason he managed to lose the election that should have been won in a trot. But the Trump administration did get its act in gear, and the work done with “big pharma” was amazing. Mr. Biden is taking all the credit for work done over the past year. Ummm. No.
