Smart People Acting Stupid

Donald Trump

Can you believe the amount of time spent in the past three days talking about Donald Trump calling the President and Hillary Clinton the “founders” of ISIS? One cannot read or watch the news without witnessing a cacophony of calls for Mr. Trump to repent!

Who are these people? How can smart people be so stupid? Pierce Wire readers will know I am no Donald Trump apostle. I don’t like him as a human being; it is that simple. But when I see allegedly smart people behaving so stupidly, it does elicit some head scratching. Now hear this! With the aforementioned comment, I could be talking about the universe of voters prepared to vote for either Clinton or Trump. I get it. Stupid is as stupid does. But I am going to narrow this stupid analysis down to our mainstream media and beltway know-it-alls.

So let’s get to the bottom of this ISIS thing, shall we?

–Of course Donald Trump doesn’t think the President and Mrs. Clinton “founded” ISIS! It was a ploy. It was, as Mr. Trump belatedly tweeted, “sarcasm”. Call it an attention grabber. Unlike some of his other off the cuff wallbangers, this one actually worked. (See a video clip of his remarks here.)

Mr. Trump was speaking to those millions of Americans who are dumbfounded that we would have left such a vacuum in Iraq, Syria, and Libya, and then stood by like idiots while the void was filled by ISIS; all the while calling them the “JV team.”

For perhaps the first time in his short, marred, wacky, self-destructive political career, Mr. Trump found a way to make his point succinctly. ISIS is what it is because of a combination of the President’s and Hillary’s overt neglect of an entire region. And when there wasn’t neglect, and we actually took some form of action over the past 8 years, it was the wrong action! All in all, this administration’s treatment of the entire Middle East has been nothing short of abhorrent. Our behavior in that region borders on malfeasance. Get the picture? So Mr. Trump knew exactly what he was saying. And, by the way, so did millions of Americans.

–That last statement begets the question, “Well, if millions of Americans knew what he was saying, why didn’t the main stream media and most of Washington DC know?” Is that a rhetorical question? The reason they didn’t know is the reason Donald Trump is the Republican nominee. They are living in esoteric cloud cuckoo land. They have swirled around in their own martini glasses of intellectual superiority for so long that they have truly lost touch with every day Americans. America’s effete elite cannot abide by people who don’t play by and speak within the implicit rules. So when someone like Donald Trump takes a metaphoric shortcut and flat out says these inept leaders are the reason for the rise of ISIS, everyone hinges on the word “founded” rather than see the obvious clarity of the message that resonates in the heartland! In short, this is a non-issue, but the more people talk about it, the more it helps Mr. Trump. People “out there” know exactly what he is saying and agree with him.

I long for the days before cable tv and the internet. Well, not quite, because I literally buy everything I decide I need via Amazon. But notwithstanding that, the news has become a 24 hour a day maelstrom of misinformation, disinformation, stupidity, and repetition. It is horrible. Trump has stepped in it more times than I can count. But I do not count the ISIS comment as one of those times. The ISIS founder comments get placed in the folder labeled “smart people acting stupid.”
